Thank you to everyone who participated in the 2020 BGSA Virtual Fall Festival! This annual event looked a little different this year being held virtually, but we had a great time gathering together for some much needed levity and celebration! From October 26-30, 2020, the BGSA hosted a week of fun, low stress activities for graduate students, faculty, staff, friends, and families of the Biology Department. These events included a virtual pumpkin carving contest, Zoom movie night, virtual photo scavenger hunt, and virtual happy hour. Prize winners of the virtual pumpkin carving contest and photo scavenger hunt received gift cards to local Denton businesses--thank you to East Side, Massage Envy, and Alamo Drafthouse Cinema for donating the gift cards! While we hope to be able to gather together for next year's Fall Festival, it was fun to participate in new, creative ways of coming together this fall season!

Thank you to everyone who joined the BGSA at Harvest House on Friday, January 24th, for a get-together and fundraiser benefiting the Biology Graduate Student Association's 17th Annual Graduate Student Research Symposium! This was a great opportunity to gather together to celebrate the start of the semester while supporting student research. During this event, Harvest House generously donated a portion of the sales to support the research symposium (April 16-17, 2020). We are very grateful to Harvest House for sponsoring this event! If you are a local business that is interested in sponsoring future BGSA research symposiums, please contact us at [email protected].
The BGSA hosted the annual Fall Festival on November 15, 2018 in the Environmental Science Eagle Exhibit Hall. Thank you to our sponsors, Ravelin Bakery, Spiral Diner, and Beth Marie's Old Fashioned Ice Cream. The 16th Annual BGSA Research Symposium took place April 11-12, 2019. Dr. Neil Shubin, author of the national bestseller Your Inner Fish, delivered two seminars discussing his discovery of the 375-million-year-old Tiktaalik roseae fossil, which is considered an important transitional form between fish and land animals. On November 16th, the BGSA hosted its annual Fall Fest. For the first time, it was hosted in the EESAT patio. There was food, drinks, and music, as well as other planned activities. Attendees had a chance to display their artistic talents in our Pumpkin Picasso competition (decorating pumpkins), and/or their ability to score in the Cornhole Bean Bag Toss Tournament. There were great prices for winners. Stay tuned for the Fall 2019 celebration! The Biology Graduate Student Association hosted its annual mixer on October 5, 2016. The goal of this event was to promote communication between graduate students, post docs and faculty, and provide an outlet for them to know each other, discuss their work, exchange ideas and become aware of future opportunities in academia and industries. It also provides an opportunity for new students to meet their colleagues and find out from their peers about graduate life and resources at UNT. |
